How does Motion Capture Work?

Motion capture uses cameras to track the subtle movements of a subject wearing mocap markers. The data is then transferred to a computer equipped with the mocap software. The software processes the data and creates a virtual skeleton that moves with the subject in real-time. For entertainment applications, this allows the director and production team to see a rough animated version of the actor’s performance. In sports applications, coaches can evaluate a player’s form, equipment angles, kinetics, and kinematics. Medical professionals can track and measure a subject’s gait to develop treatment plans and physical therapy.
